How Your List Becomes a Text
List2Text makes use of two very common things that everyone has access to: 1) this website, 2) text messaging via cell phone. If you have a cell phone, can send and receive text messages on it, and can get to this site to create and log in to an account, you can make full use of List2Text to get shopping lists, reminders, etc.
The way that this powerful feature works is really simple. Every cell phone has an email address associated with it. That email address is just your area code and phone number at your cell phone service provider's respective email address (which you can find here). Once you know that email, then sending and receiving text messages from List2Text is just as simple as sending and receiving email.
When you send a text message to List2Text as described when you log in to your account, it will send you back your requested list as an email to your cell phone.
How You Create a List
Now you know the general scheme of things, but you have no idea how your list gets created. When you create an account on this website, you will be able to set up multiple lists for yourself. Your lists can be for shopping (groceries, clothes, etc), general reminders, or anything else you can think of. When you think of something new to add to your list, just log in, bring up your list, edit it, and save it. That's it! It's just like writing on your normal grocery list but you can do it from anywhere you have access to the internet.
Sometimes you don't have access to your computer, but you still want to edit your lists. List2Text has got you covered. Not only can you retrieve any of your lists from your cell phone or any email address, but you can also edit your lists through text messages. That means you can add and delete items before forgetting to later.
A Final Disclaimer
Though the server that List2Text runs on is pretty stable and secure, it is located in my apartment and goes at the pace of my DSL connection. As a result, bandwidth may become an issue if this gets popular, and you might see some performance drop (sometimes text messages take a few minutes to deliver). Fortunately, List2Text is very light-weight so there shouldn't be much of a problem for retrieving and editing your lists.
Because I am maintaining the machine, software, and connection this service is running on by myself for you to use and enjoy, I greatly appreciate donations and spreading the word about this website to others. If I get enough users and traffic, I might be able to upgrade the hardware and connection to further enhance this service. Thank you for using List2Text and I hope you enjoy it.
